John Moore

Bass

Double bassist John Moore is a member of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra hired 1996 by then Music Director Lorin Maazel. Previously, John had been a member of the San Diego Symphony from 1991-1996 and in the Honolulu Symphony from 1988-1991. He also held the title of Principal Bass with the San Diego Chamber Orchestra. John graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music in 1988 as a pupil of Roger Scott. John continued his studies with Lawrence Wolfe at the New England Conservatory in 1988. He won first place in the La Jolla Symphony Solo Competition in 1993 performing the Koussevitsky double bass concerto. John has performed with the National Repertory Orchestra, Tanglewood, Shleswig-Holstein, Colorado Music Festival, Carmel Bach Festival, LA Chamber Orchestra, The New York Philharmonic, Chatham Baroque, Strings in the Mountains, Grand Tetons, Sunflower and Buzzards Bay Music Festivals. John plays on Betts double bass from 1800, rides bicycles and fixes his 1889 townhouse in Pittsburgh in his free time.
