Craig Mumm
Principal Viola
Former Associate Principal Violist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Craig began his musical career in Chicago as Associate Principal violist of the Lyric Opera of Chicago and Grant Park Orchestras. Mr. Mumm maintains a versatile schedule of solo and chamber music appearances. He has recorded with the MET on the Deutsche Grammaphon, Sony, and Decca labels. His 2011 Grammy nominated recording of Franco Alfano’s Piano Quintet on the Naxos label was warmly praised in The Strad magazine.
Mr. Mumm served on the faculty of the Orchestral Performance Program at the Manhattan School of Music as well as the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University and on the faculty of the Juilliard School in the Music Advancement Program.
Known for his passion and advocacy of youth music programs, Mr. Mumm is a faculty member of OA, Orchestra of the Americas, participating in OA’s residencies and tours and FEMUSC, the Festival of Music, Santa Catarina, Brazil.
